POSITION: ENVIRONMENT MANAGER:
Job Description:
The Environment Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation and maintenance of environmental programs within the Ports. S/he is expected to play a critical role in ensuring compliance with regulations and promoting a safe and healthy work environment for employees. The Environment Manager works closely with Management, employees, and regulatory agencies to develop and enforce policies and procedures that protect the well-being of all stakeholders of the Ports.
Responsibilities
1. Develop and implement Port environmental policies and procedures in line with national regulations.
2. Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
3. Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and environmental conservation practices.
4. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of environmental programs and initiatives, making necessary adjustments to ensure continuous improvement.
5. Investigate and report environmental accidents, incidents, and near misses, analyzing root causes and implementing preventive measures to minimize future occurrences.
6. Maintain and update safety data sheets(SDS) and ensure compliance with hazard communication standards.
7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement ergonomic solutions, promote wellness initiatives, and mitigate occupational health risks.
8. Stay up dated on relevant environmental regulations and industry best practices, and communicate changes and updates to the Authority.
9. Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, participating in inspections, audits, and permit applications.
10.Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, and coordinate drills and exercises to ensure preparedness.
Required Skills:
1.Strong knowledge of health and environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
2.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train employees, facilitate discussions, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
3. Analytical and problem solving skills to identify risks, analyze data, and develop effective solutions.
4. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
5. Ability to lead and influence others, fostering a culture of safety and accountability throughout the organization.
6. Proficiency in using computer software and systems to manage and track safety data and information.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
2. Masters degree in the relevant field will be an added advantage.
3. Minimum of 7years of experience in environmental health management.
4. Experience in developing and implementing safety training programs and managing safety committees.
5. Strong understanding of risk management principles and incident investigation techniques.
REMUNERATION
Salary attached to the post is Grade 7/Base of the GPA Integrated Pay scale along with attractive allowances and other good benefits.
